Me, I wander the spectrum, fractionate through the prism, blend into combinations of colors. Poetry to pathology, mythology to heavy metal, screaming music. For peace I go to the ocean, to the woods, to the places where the natural spirits fly. For release, I dance and dance and dance…, and I walk. For stories, I go to the cities. Boston, Worcester, Chicago, New Orleans, Vienna, Budapest, Glasgow, Edinburgh…
I am a writer. You got a story? I want to hear it, read it, talk about it. The drama of everyday life, a person’s struggle with reality: conflict, boredom, addiction, love. That’s who I am. Sure, I have stories, too. Seen things I never should have seen. Heard things I never should have heard. That’s life.
Drug use is a part of many people’s lives. As a result of my experiences with people who use drugs illicitly, as a result of listening to their stories, I write about drugs. The perspective you find here may not be common, although you may recognize bits of stories if you have spent time with drug addicts. You may also recognize facts, but you may not have read about them put together quite this way.
Illicit drug use is considered to be a major problem in the United States. Legislators continue to add more laws and regulations to the heap of drug laws that already exists. The media continues to promote the same tired perspective, usually beginning an article with the personal touch, the familiar story of some broken down person. And the common citizen continues to judge until that “broken down person” is not really even seen as an individual, just another addict. It is assumed that they all exhibit common traits and may be cured using the same steps.
In these pages, I hope that you find something new. Minimally, I hope that you learn something.
